Gun Club Friday March 29, 2012

Lone wolf Gun Club today.  Walked by right at 3PM to check it out and saw Travis, trooper.  It takes a dedicated man to work on Friday guns. Well done!  Dana and the kids were in the city today so I was free to exclusively nurture the guns, nice.  One needs to have guns if one wants to cuddle others.  Taking care of the guns is an important way to care for others.

Started with my 5K run, stunk.  Damn pig barns.  Two dogs out today.  One I have seen before. he runs up to the driveway, not barking, but not wagging his tail either.  I stare him down, but I have been watching 'Gandhi' in class lately and remember his super-confident, non-violent awesomeness.  I avert my eyes, lower my head into a passive position, (I don't sniff his butt) and run by.  Yeah, he alphaed me. I was Gneufed.  I don't think Gandhi felt so lame.  I keep running.  I meet the next dog.  I'm not looking away, not this time.  I Stare him down, he yelps, bares his teeth, but runs away, scared of the guns.  On my return loop the beta dog was gone, but the alpha dog silently watched me run by.   Like Kenny Rogers (solid guns for a singer) said 'You've gotta know when to fold them'.

After this sweaty warm-up, I headed into Gun Club, with a couple other dogs, my familiars, my constant companions from birth.  My inner wolves.  Black Wolf and White Wolf, or Black and White wolf, or B&W Wolf, or B&Dubs Wolf, or R.Dubs' B&Dubs Dubs. But that's just semantics.  I walked in with B&Dubs trailing behind, wrestling for Alpha.  Somedays White Wolf is clearly in charge, other days Black Wolf grins with triumphant arrogance.  Somedays they fight; this was one of those days.  I decided to let them run.  I think they smelled tuna.  Fresh from my run, I shredded a Spartacus workout (if interested, check this out from Joel, awesome), and then basically went nuts on the guns.  Whenever you don't have an exact plan, just go nuts on the guns.  The wolves howled.  I think Mel thinks I'm crazy, poor man has to listen to all the grunting, whatever, doesn't matter, as long as we work the guns, Mel does boot camp, I do Gun Club, we're not here to judge, just to support each other in pursuit of healthy guns.  Everyone has their own way.  Once I let the wolves run, they take their own course.

Came home exhausted and famished.  I gorged on eggs, cheese, toasted rye bread and peanut butter, amazing.  B&Dubs were restless and hungry, but they will sleep well tonight.

I was hounded by dogs, and wolves, but I overcame.  I showed up.

Gun Club Thursday March 29, 2012

Lots of traffic again today, awesome.  Jamieson and LDE were first in, leaders.  They headed off to other things and for a while it was retro guns, just me the Adamal, and Joel.  We marked the ocassion by grunting and cheersing each other.  Joel pounded 205 lbs, twice, on the bench.  He looks in good shape to double plate (225lbs) on Tuesday.  The Adamal continues to own the squats.  He makes it look easy; it isn't.  I think I'm going to ease off the squat weights.  My knee feels a little tweaked and my back is tight.  You've gotta respect the knees and the back.  Ignore the guns, they were made to scream, but listen to the knees and back.

Later a Hoopla 2013 training session broke out!  Jordan, Tandy (where's Keita?), and Josh were training hard, taking their first steps to Hoopla 2013.  I loved the positive chatter and talk of dunks.  I'll hold you to it!

I heard whispers of abs.

Lots of effort today.  We showed up!

Gun Club Wednesday March 28, 2012

Wednesday is my designated running day, and I did my 5K loop.  Unfortunately the mother-in-law can't watch the kids for me on the weekend of the Saskatchewan Marathon, where I wanted to run the 10K.  I'll keep training and looking for a different race.  The 5k loop is starting to get easier, but it was nasty running into the wind on the way back.  It just makes me stronger.

When I came back into the school from my run I smelled a faint hint of sweat and knew Gun Club was in session; I was strangely intoxicated by this odd aroma and felt a second wind.   I wanted to come by and shred a few reps, but I got the news that I was needed at home.  Alas, one must balance the guns with life, or should I say Atlas.  We need the guns to get us through life, but without a life, the guns have no meaning, without the guns one can't get along in life.  This is the Ying and Yang of the Guns and Life.  Though I was called from home, I stopped by Gun Club just to check it out.  A man can never be too available.  I was met by Eric doing stairs sweating like a pig, awesome.  Morgan was running, excellent.  Josh D. was stoically getting ripped, and I think I saw Tyler thrashing on the bench, poetry.  It was awesome to see so many guy getting jacked.  It was dark and I only walked by, and I know I probably missed some guys, but I report on what I see, and when I go.

You know who you are, and you showed up.  That's reward enough.  That's Gun Club.

My big gun days are Tuesdays and Thursdays and I am looking forward to Gun Club tomorrow already.  I packed my lunch tonight, a lentil salad with feta cheese and a can of rainforest tuna (that's the brand that NASA takes to space, must be good).  One must feed the guns to make them grow.  Guns must be thrashed, but they must be fed, just like sled dogs.  The stats on the albacore tuna can say that I will have 45 g of fish meal protein pulsing through my veins after lunch, along with the lentils.  Look out.  The albacore lurks, waiting to surface.

It was windy, but I ran 5k.  I showed up, and can't wait for tomorrow.

Gun Club Tuesday March 27, 2012

Great Gun Club today.  I felt ready, and I was.  I heard the thunder.

Lots of guys out as well.  Must be the spring air.  Travis, Mike, and LDE showed up, and Matt made a pre-badminton appearance.  Always good to see the gun-rack full.  Mike was an animal.  It was a river of testosterone in there, awesome.

Joel was back, and in fine form.  He held back a bit as he is transitioning out of bball coaching season into full guns mode.  Wise.  We are still gunning for double plates next Tuesday, both going for new max presses.  Adam was coaching badminton, so we'll miss him a bit over the next few weeks.  I think his body will do just fine.

I've been liking the 'more reps less weight' thing lately, but that is only after I pushed my max a bit in the previous few weeks.  I also have found that I do better when i eat about an hour or half an hour before gun club, like today I had a granola bar just before tutorial.  I find that it gives me energy down the stretch.

Like I said, great Gun Club today.  The new speakers that Adam brought are a nice touch as well, but I don't know if Louella likes it.  We'll watch that, good neighbours and gentlemen that we are.

It was a good day; we showed up.

Gun Club Monday March 26, 2012

Little guns today, only about 20 mins, due to staff meeting. Arggh!!! So many staff meetings interfering with our guns.  I did a 10 set Sparticus regime.  I started alone, and Joel came later, but wisely noted, "Ten minutes is better than no minutes."  He showed up.  That's what counts.  Joel also promised that tomorrow he was going to "bring the thunder".  I'm pumped already.  He's feeling ready to rip now that bball season is over.  We're gunning for true double plates (225 lbs = 2x 45 lbs plates on each side, plus bar) for Joel next Tuesday.  He'll get it.

Anyway, we manned up, we showed up.  Well done Gun Club.

Gun Club Friday March 23, 2012

Good Gun Club today.  I was in there all alone, but that's alright sometimes.  Adam was sick.  Joel was at Hoopla.  It was Friday so the kids had stuff to do.  All good.  I had a bit of angsty aggression in me, so it felt good to let it out.  Cranked the music.  I showed up.  Been Liking "Paper Planes" by MIA lately.  Arcade Fire continues to be a favourite.  Seems like wierd workout music, but it works for me.  Did three sets of solid weight of my five core exercises: bench, squats, dead lifts, rows, curls, and clean and jerk.  Did a bit of cardio, my M100's (mandatory 100 cardio reps that I do every workout), some dumbell stuff, and some Milverines.  (The exercises that Milverene does at the end of this video, check it out!).  Milverene

Solid gun club today.  Adam seems to be healing from his arm injury.  He should be back to double plates by the end of the year.  Good to see some of the young bucks in there.  Way to go Josh, Mike, Cesar, and Travis.  Way to hit it hard.  You showed up.

Welcome to Gun Club

The RJC Gun Club's mission is to take aim at inactivity.

The founding members (Adam, Joel, and Ryan) know that if they only lecture, mark, and drink coffee (or in Adam's case hot chocolate) they will grow fat, lazy, and out of shape.  This is not good.  Welcome to Gun Club.

There are two rules in Gun Club: 1) show up, and 2) show up.

Looking forward to a great gun club meeting today.  Feel like getting pumped.  It will be good to have Joel back next week after he is done basketball season.
