RJC Gun Club Fri. Oct. 26, 2012

Well, back at 'er.

Today was the end of term 1 and we have some work to do.  The Driedg and I (Rdubs) hit it hard today.  Summer is officially over and we are heading into winter.  There are no igloos to make for the ladies and children, so we need to toss weights around to melt through the whale-like belly blubber to the muscle that lies like land beneath the snow.

Inspiration incarnate, T-pain showed up for the first time today!  This resulted in many cheers and grunts from the Gun Rack.  Hoping to see Tandy and Joe Hachchachachana back as well.

Winter's coming gentlemen.  Only the strong will survive.  Build your igloo.  Ladies love a man that can provide, or at least they don't stick with ones that can't.  The wolves are howling.

Whatever the weather, show up.

RJC Gun Club Wednesday September 12, 2012

Tubby McTubby was draggin his butt to the weight room searching for inspiration.  The grad photos peering at him from the class of '45 didn't do it, but the shining face of Tandy T. waiting for someone to open the weight room did!  Thanks for the inspiration Tandy!  You showed up, and so, did I.

Let's get ripped this year.

RJC Gun Club Tuesday Sept. 11, 2012

Tubby, so tubby.  Watched CNN Sept. 11 memorials and did Spartacus workout.  Memories of the fallen.  Inspiration to climb out of my poor lifestyle choices of summer.

Let's do this.

RJC Gun Club Tuesday June 5, 2012

Pure inspiration!

Monster Guns did not disappoint.  Started off in the clubhouse with the Trifecta (aka The Adamal, The Driedge, and myself).  High fives all around.  Major grunting.  Awesome.  The difference, however, was that we were soon joined by some young guns, the first being T-Mart (AKA The Weasel, or T-Weasel, or T-Wease, or The Prairie Mongoose, or Egg Snatcher (you should see him do dumbbell push-ups, he just scoops them up!), or Canada Goose, or Goose, or Gooser, or 'the skinniest strong man I know', or Tyler Martens).

Shortly thereafter we were joined by T-Rav (AKA Heebs) and Mike Arnason (AKA Arnason or Smoke Killer).  If there was an Olympic Games for people who smoked a minimum of 1 pack a day for at least a year and then did Olympic events, Arnason would represent Canada.  This guy continues to inspire with monster effort!  Don't leave us Arnason.

Even Kuny was shredding Monster Yoga (AKA 'K.O. Mo-Yo') in the Bio room.  I guess the club could work at being more gender neutral space.  Next year.

But today, even though things are getting busy, we showed up! Thanks for the inspiration!

RJC Gun Club Monday June 4, 2012

Wow, it's been too long since the last post.  Well, no time for excuses, just moving forward.  It's not that no one has been pumping the guns, but admittedly it has slowed, especially for the young 'uns.  I guess they are studying.

It was time for a kick-start, and here's how it happened.   The Driedge and I were cramming a few quick guns at noon (we need to do this a noon now because staff meeting starts immediately following tutorial on Mondays and if we don't gun it up before these meetings I get too aggressive) and we saw Mike A.  heading to the smoke pit, "Get in here Arnason"  I shouted out the window.  He shrugged a sheepish smile and kept walking.  "Haven't seen you in here forever!" Menaced the Dreiedge.  "Walk of Shame, you have to earn that smoke Arnason".  We thought we lost him, but withing a few minutes (man, those guys know how to smoke) his lately-not-so-familar-presence graced the doorway.

I felt the magic back.

Then Robby came in, representing the grade 10s, The Fitzgeralds, and the entire Irish-Quebecois nation (as small as it is, but it's feisty).  The inertia of Gun Club was back.  We only pumped for a few minutes, but as the music pounded, the sweat poured, and the bell rang, I felt like the June push was on.

We showed up, and it felt good.

Monster guns tomorrow.  As always, everyone's invited!

Gun Club Friday May 11, 2012

I owe this one to Joel.  I wasn't going to gun today, but he was, so I did too.  Thanks for keeping me on track Father-Brother!  I started with a run.  The wind was a beast, but it only made me stronger, and slower.  I'm trying to stay in shape for my 10K on May 27th.

Once I finished my run I met Joel on his way out of the Club.  I am looking forward to having a full Gun Club with the Driedge again soon, but I guess today wasn't the day.  Soon, my Father-Brother, we will shred again!  The Adamal was at a funeral.  Our condolences, friend.

I soldiered on with solo-guns.  Did the Spartacus routine.  If I was a gladiator, which I'm not, I think I would pick a trident.  You can defend thrust, stab, or throw it.  But, the winners rarely have a trident do they.  And what's with those nets that usually go with the tridents?  I guess I would take a sword.

it was Friday, and I snuck in a gun-run.  Here's to Joel for making me show up!

Gun Club Thursday May 10, 2012

What a treat, I was able to slip in a quick, intense Gun Club between the Coffee House dress rehearsal and the final show.  I rushed into the clubhouse just after 4, alone. But wait!  Just as I opened the door Heebs and T-mart emerged out of the shadows eager to join.  I felt like a chef heading to the dumpster to dump food and having cats congregate when they hear the door.  It always good to know you're appreciated.

We hit it hard.  T-mart was planking something fierce.  I even tried to slap his legs down, to no avail.  Amazing, circus-material, planking action.  T-mart owns this exercise.

It was a quick one, but we showed up!

Gun Club Monday May 7

Back from ALSO week and some serious practiguns.  Time to hone the guns for the next service adventure.

Had some retro guns with The Adamal and Papa Driedge just before staff meeting.  We did our time-hampered, quasi-Spartacus, intense work-out.  When we came into the staff room, sweating, Jim said he felt like he was in a sitcom.  Rowan laughed, but this was not unusual.  We must be a treat to sit beside during humid staff meetings.  A teach has to do what a teach has to do to stay healthy.  Coffee breath and cardigan protruding bellies lurk behind every semester.

After staff meeting I hit Gun Club again.  I was alone so I jumped right into my regular strength training regime: bench, squats, rows, dead-lifts, curling, and military presses.  I had a steady slow burn workout today.  White wolf was alpha today, though Black dubs was growling earlier in the day, must be a Monday thing.  I have more endurance when White Wolf is alpha, more control, more focus.  I like White dubs days, but Black dubs is always lurking.

Whatever the case, it is important to show up, and after a week off it was time.  There are only about 12 major gun clubs left in this calendar year, like the disciples.  And like the 12 disciples they are all important (except Judas).  they have to show up.  Here's to finishing strong!  Here's to showing up.

Gun Club Thursday April 27, 2012

Solo guns today, and I had some serious toxins to work out of the system.  Returning from a Wanuskewin field trip Mario let out some serious gas, which he covered up with excessive amounts (the whole bottle) of Axe body spray.  Potent.  We love Mario.

Exiting the van in a nasty smog of musky, floral feces, I stumbled in to Gun Club and got down to business.  I went hard.  Some days I wonder where all the angry energy comes from, but when it flows in the Club I let it go.  Let Black-wolf run.  The last few sessions White-wolf was dominant, so I guess it was Black dubs turn.

RJC was hosting badminton playoffs, and I had the music pretty loud.  People kinda' stayed away.  Some looked down the hall, like children peering down a dark, wooded path, but most stayed away.  The wolf lives there.

The wolves showed up.

Gun Club Tuesday April 25, 2012

I knew I would be the lone staffer today.  Joel, bless his guns, is a proud new father!  Henri Joel Leis Driedger was born last Thursday, and is already showing signs of being a gunner.  We know Joel is where he needs to be, and wish him all the best.  We are also awaiting his return to Gun Club within the next couple weeks.  He needs to keep up the guns to be the best father he can be.  The Adamal was away with the badminton team, which apparently didn't sweep, but did well.

I started my solitary gun club right at 3:30.  I got a phone call from Dana that I was needed at home by 4:30, hate those, so I knew I needed to go fast and hard.  I was soon joined by Josh D. and Travis H.  These guys seemed to be just as focused and we crushed some sets.  I was sweating all over the place.  I'm going to bring a spray bottle and towel in the future.  Josh D. decided to try 'the tap' (see previous post).  He likes to walk on the dark side.  I declined.  Awkward memories.

I had to go early than I wanted, but I showed up and did what I could.  Sometimes life is like that.  Just be happy with what you got.

Gun Club Thursday April 19, 2012

I thought I might be working the guns alone today.  Joel was away tending to his family, which will hopefully grow soon.  All the best Joel, we're thinking of you!  Try to steal a minute to run some stairs in the hospital, or do some push-ups in the waiting room, or chin-ups on the door frames.  Just remember to stay loose.  A man must be prepared for the arrival of his first born.  I did one extra rep on all of my sets today in honor of the imminent arrival of jr. driedge.  I can just imagine jr.'s emerging guns reaching, stretching, and clawing toward life.  Nature at its purest.

I wasn't alone in the Gun Club, however.  The Adamal arrived in fine form and hammered, and I mean hammered, out some amazing clean and jerk military presses with my squat weights.  I find this works well because we don't need to change the weights much.  Travis and Arnason arrived a bit later.  Arnason has made some huge gains, and is now repping the bench at 145lbs, nice.

Travis introduced me to a new exercise, 'the tap'.  I guess this is a UFC thing.  You lie on the ground on your back and kind of hover flex so your abs are tight, then the other guy (Arnason in my case) 'taps' (read: hits or whips) your abs with a 'tap stick' (read: a volley ball standard flag 'I hope someone returns that.' said the Adamal).  The effect was such that I felt a bit dirty.  I think I'll leave this exercise to them.

Well, it was a beautiful spring day, there was alot we could have done, but we showed up.  And we are better for it.

RJC Gun Club Tuesday April 17, 2012

Well, back from Easter break and a bit of a slow start for Gun Club.  Just the Driedge and me after school.  It felt a little sluggish, but we showed up and got started.  Felt a bit better after a few sets and as we went along the vision of massive guns by the end of June inspired us to continue.  Senior Driedge has added motivation as he is expecting a jr. driedge any day now.  He needs secure guns to hold the little one.  All the best to the Driedges!

After Driedg was called off, Karalee keeps us on a regular schedule, I was left to my own devices until, like angels of light, Arnason and Travis sauntered down the hall.  This coincided with the Rococo blasting on the ipump playlist, beautiful.  This inspired me to one more set.

It's tough to motivate oneself after the chocolate Easter bunny sugar crash, but we showed up anyway.  Nice work boys, let's keep this momentum going.

Thursday 5 April 2012

RJC Gun Club Thursday April 5, 2012

Just me and the Adamal today.  Working out alone with the Adamal is kind of like being in a cage with a bear, a zoo bear, subdued and domesticated, but if raw instinct snapped back into place...yeah, you're on the wrong side of the bars.  Time to put the tuna away.

It was relaxing to pump the guns after interviews,  too much sitting.  Makes me crazy.  Guns get restless.  Most students were packing or had left for the break, though I did see Jordan Nickel run by, but he might have just been running, not going for a run.  Later, Joseph Beug's parents walked by.  It was like we both wanted to say something, but didn't.

I took a moment for Lenten guns today.  Tried to use whole body sensory worship.  Jesus is the man.  A small taste of physical pain and pushing human thresholds is a window into what he must of endured.  People mocked, laughed, and spit; but when the crunch came, he showed up.

Happy Easter everyone!  See you after the break.

Tuesday 3 April 2012

RJC Gun Club Tuesday April 3, 2012

Epic Gun Club today.  Joel crushed the double plates (225lbs)!  If you were late, you missed it.  He showed up, warmed up, and pounded it.  I was high-fiving, The Adamal was impressed, and  Landon 'Obi-Wan' Falconer said, 'He lifted the X-wing, Luke couldn't do it, but Joel did'.  A compliment if I've ever heard one.  Tyler came about 3 seconds too late to witness it, and looked stunned.  Well done Joel, I haven't given up yet, and you have inspired us all.

Lots of traffic today.  Love the smell of spring sweat, gets the game on.  Arnason continues to shred.  I might take up smoking again if he doesn't slow down a bit.  Travis, Tyler, and LDE are regulars and always work it hard.  LDE is training for nationals, nice work.  Later, it was great to see Vichael out.  He has so much potential to be a massive artsy-skater-beast, a good look for Vichael.  Landon ran 50 laps, he wanted to give up at 42 and I showed him the inspirational poster I brought today which featured a crippled young boy with prosthetic legs running a race with the caption: 'Your excuse is invalid' (Pinterest isn't only for girls).  I pinned this to the doorpost at the bottom of the stairwell, and Landon pounded out 8 more laps, dedication.

One for the record books.  Good things are happening.  Double plates are possible if you show up.

Double Plate celebration dinner here I come!
